Lestat, He Ain't

Just finished Anne Rice's Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt.

A fantastic read. Many here in the Reformed camp will say that a first-person narrative of Christ's childhood is blasphemy across the board; however, I read this book with a constant awareness of, "This isn't really Jesus, and it isn't factual."

Rice has done a masterful job of portraying what life for a young Jew would have been like. And she reminds us of what the Bible has to say about the Lord: He emptied Himself, and lived as one of us, and as a child He learned things. He was fully God and fully man.

Ms. Rice's Author's Note at the end of the book is worth the cover price. Her remarks about the early writing of the Gospels and the destruction of Jerusalem are something the modern Church needs to hear. I thank the Lord that He has called her to faith. Her transformation really is remarkable.
