Last Tuesday marked the last time for the Smith Band to lead worship at Breakaway Bible Study at Texas A&M. We have been there every Tuesday (during school, anyway) for the past four years. Stephen and Star's relocation to Irving precludes their participation as the worship leaders, so it's time to move on.
Being a part of this ministry has been, in a great many ways, the pinnacle of all that I have done out of nineteen years of playing professionally. It's not the numbers--although playing to several thousand people a week does wonders for your "live chops." It's that God is doing remarkable works at A&M, and it's simply glorious to be around it. Every week students drop what they're doing and gather together to worship the Lord and to hear His Word proclaimed. It's done with no pretense. It isn't a weekly Evango "concert with a lecture." There's no Big Show, no hype, no marketing. It's about the Living, Triune God.
God is doing remarkable works. All authority belongs to King Jesus, and He is going to bring all the nations into His fold. All the families of the Earth will worship God. The Earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord. His Kingdom is a rock that fills the Earth. It's a seed growing into the largest of trees. It's leaven working through the dough.
College Station is part of this. Its destiny is to be filled with Christians. It is going to happen. And Breakaway is, IMHO, the primary means through which God is accomplishing this at this present time.
I mean to have my part in it, through my gifts, prayers...any support I can give (which hopefully will include some more drumming, Lord willing!). I love these dear brothers and sisters, every single volunteer, the board, the staff, the students, and the musicians yet to come.
Praise God for His mercy and kindness to such as me.
You can share my memories through this movie which Breakaway gave us to celebrate our time together. Chokes me up, every time.
