I am as pleased and as moved as everyone else to see the Iraqi people bravely, and joyously, elect representatives to govern them after decades of bondage to the Hussein regime.
It is a good thing to see government by the people established in that particular part of the world.
But let us not forget that, for the most part, the Iraqi people are no more free now than they were a decade ago. They are slaves to a false religion every bit as much as they were slaves to Saddam's regime.
And let us thank the Lord Jesus that, in His kindness, wisdom and mercy, He has seen fit to direct the U.S. to destroy Saddam and establish representative government in a region that sorely needs it. For He is the Ruler of the kings of the Earth, and nothing takes place in the Earth without His consent (including Saddam's past actions, tsunamis, and the rise of empires). And in so doing, He may very well be paving the way for His Gospel to be proclaimed to His elect among the heathen. Let us pray that it is so.
And let us further pray for reformation in this, the nation He has brought against the defeated Iraqi powers, lest He see cause to raise someone else up against us.
